Are you tired of colorizing your applications? How about your Desk Accessories? In System 7, Desk Accessories display their icon in the Apple Menu, if and only if they have icons and bundles set up for them. Don╒t worry╤it doesn╒t get too complicated, though you DO need to know how to use ResEdit to make this trick work.
Here are the step-by-step instructions:
1) Perform these steps ONLY on a copy, and only under System 7.
2) double-click on the La Cie Silver Volumes suitcase (if you haven╒t already done so), and then drag the actual DA out of the suitcase.
3) Using ResEdit, copy ALL of the resources in the enclosed file into the Silver Volumes DA.
4) From the File menu of ResEdit, select ╥Get Info for Silver Volumes.╙
5) Change the file╒s type to ╥dfil╙ and its creator to ╥slvr╙ using lower case letters only.
6) Click on the check box for the bundle bit (BNDL). In newer versions of ResEdit, it╒s called ╥Has Bundle.╙
6) Save the changes and Quit ResEdit.
7) Restart your Mac and rebuild the Desktop file.
8) To rebuild the Desktop file, hold down the Command and Option keys together as the Mac starts up. You will be asked if you really want to rebuild the Desktop file. If you don╒t mind losing any comments you have in your files (who uses this anyway?), then tell it to go ahead.
9) Ta-Da!!!! You know have an icon for your Silver Volumes DA. If you drop it in the ╥Apple Menu Items╙ folder, it will be instantly available to you.
Hope you enjoyed this little exercise, and the free icons. I got tired of putting together color icon sets, so this is just one little step up!
Have Fun!!!
